Questions about your Orvis Log Home?

Who builds the Orvis Log Homes?

Every naturally dry-standing log for The Orvis Log Homes is harvested, hand-selected, milled, cut and notched to precise tolerances by Rocky Mountain Log Homes, right here at our manufacturing plant in Hamilton, Montana.

The Orvis Log Homes are designed and manufactured to be custom-built on your site; they are pre-milled, but not prefabricated. And, since log homes are unique in both character and construction, we at Rocky have spent decades cultivating a deep network of log home building specialists, contractors whose focus is fine log homes. If you like, we’ll recommend a trusted, bonded regional builder who is familiar with the art and nuances of stacking, crafting and finishing a great log home.

Can I build one anywhere?

Absolutely. Our network of builders has a client base that spans the North American continent and every state. Our architectural and engineering staff here at Rocky will adjust the design and specifications to conform to your local building codes and inspection requirements. Then one of our regional Rocky representatives will be available to answer any questions you may have during construction.

In short, wherever your site, we can put you on track to build your Orvis Log Home there. And during the manufacturing process, wherever you currently live, we’ll communicate with you via phone and e-mail to ensure your satisfaction with our progress.

What do I get?

After harvesting and milling, the logs are trucked from our plant to your site, along with the additional materials that constitute the package – solid wood windows, wood flooring, solid pine exterior and interior doors, all log or timber trusses, rafters, roofing, porches, posts, decks, even exterior and interior fixtures and hardware, depending on your package specifications.

Your builder takes over from there, with all labor and materials that may be needed to finish the home, including the materials and construction needed for the foundation. Again,we at Rocky can provide you with our selective list of some of the country’s best log home construction contractors. During stacking and construction, our regional Rocky representative is a phone call away for any questions that may arise.

Your Orvis Log Home comes with several Orvis-designed comforts. The thinking that went into designing and finishing these homes reflects the same philosophy that went into building the world’s finest hand-made fly rods. The hearth, a warm centerpiece for family gathering, is designed in classic Orvis style with natural rock. A Sportsman’s Room, one of the home’s truly unique spaces, comes with gun and rod storage, a full dog care area for bathing, feeding and boarding, a work bench for fly-tying, and many more thoughtful touches. All fixtures and hardware were chosen specifically to emulate Orvis’ tradition of fine craftsmanship and detail.

Can I customize or change a plan?

Yes. The Orvis Log Homes plans were carefully designed to accommodate a range of outdoor lifestyles, family sizes and different tastes. But should you require reasonable changes in floor plan, design or finish details to suit your specific needs, the design staff here at Rocky Mountain Log Homes will work with you at an hourly design rate to get it just right. Keep in mind that design revisions can extend the log package delivery schedule, depending on their scope and complexity.

Is there a warranty?

Every Orvis Log Home carries our legendary Rocky Mountain Log Homes limited warranty – the best in the industry. Backed by a third party, it protects against structural and material defects. This includes the house logs, timbers, and factory milling and joinery, for a full 10 years. The only thing stronger is the home itself.

How long will it take to build?

From the time of your order, it can take as little as four weeks for the materials to be delivered to your site. From that point, your schedule will depend on the size of your home, the complexity of your site, and the season. Generally speaking, a 2,500-square-foot log home, built with Orvis’ specifications and finished for turnkey move-in, will require about eight months’ building time. To have an Orvis Log Home ready for a family holiday gathering, for instance, one would begin excavation in April at the latest.

Why Rocky Mountain Log Homes?

The Orvis Company reviewed the raw materials, operations, people and finished products of the world’s most noted log home manufacturers, from small handcrafters to large factories. Orvis then decided on us for many reasons, one of which is our exclusive use of only naturally seasoned – or “dry-standing” – Western white woods. Building with trees that are already dead and dried results in the most beautiful and structurally sound log home, period. While a few other companies use dry-standing timber, only the Rocky brand follows through on this belief with literally the most advanced log home manufacturing plant in the world, millions of dollars’ worth of privately designed and patented milling equipment. Finally, our owners, who themselves founded Rocky Mountain Log Homes back in 1974, employ the most dedicated and long-standing team of experts in the business, to guide every home from harvest to housewarming. For 30 years now, the results have been impressive: a huge portfolio of beautiful log homes, more than 100 national design awards, and thousands of very happy log home owners. All of which reflect Orvis ’ long-held beliefs in tradition and quality.
